My dear daughter Onyx has had quite the journey with eczema; the extreme flares led to the discovery of her food allergies. A blood panel showed IgE (immunoglobulin E) antibodies for wheat, dairy & eggs, soy, peanuts, and oats. The diagnosis completely turned our lives upside down. We’d just nailed our breastfeeding rhythm. I was eating pretty clean and working out again. Welp. I totally underestimated just how difficult anything outside of a whole foods, mainly plant-based diet would be for keeping the naughty food allergens away. Did you know soy lecithin is in damn near everything? I mean I couldn’t even buy a pack of sunflower seeds without transgressing. As I paid more and more attention to labels, the more I realized our foods are rarely what they say they are. (Writing in progress)
